Padel ON SPORTSBUDDY

PADEL, ON THE GOLDEN POINT.

SportsBuddy scores padel on the FIP shape: best of three, golden point at 40-40, tiebreak at six games all, and an optional super tiebreak for the deciding set. Points are recorded with padel's own vocabulary — bandeja, víbora, chiquita, por tres, por cuatro, a winner off the glass — and the public scoreboard replays the 15-30-40 ladder point by point.

Padel is not tennis with walls, and scoring it with a tennis app shows immediately. The deciding point at 40-40 is the standard rather than the exception. The shots have their own names, and they are not decoration — a bandeja and a smash out over the back fence are different points and a coach reading the match afterwards needs to know which happened.

SportsBuddy runs the whole ladder: point to game, game to set, set to match, with the deuce rule the tournament chose. Golden point is the FIP and Premier Padel standard and the app's default. Star point, introduced in the 2026 FIP rules, gives the game a deciding point at the third deuce instead of the first. Classic advantage scoring is there for clubs that still play it.

The scorer's job stays small — the winning side, then the shot. Two serves, the fault and double-fault handling, change of ends on the odd games and every six points of a tiebreak, and the tiebreak and super-tiebreak arithmetic all happen underneath.

SCORING

The scoring screen

One tap for the side that won the point, one for how they won it. The engine does the rest.

Fourteen ways to win a point

WINNER, SMASH, BANDEJA, VÍBORA, CHIQUITA, GLOBO, VOLLEY WINNER, a WALL WINNER off the glass, POR TRES and POR CUATRO for a smash out over the side or back fence, ACE, DOUBLE FAULT, OPPONENT ERROR and UNFORCED ERROR. Padel's own language, not a borrowed one.

Errors credited the right way round

The scorer always taps the side that WON the point, for every point type. On an error the app shows the other team's players — because the mistake was made over there — and files the offender without giving them the point.

The ladder, run for you

Fifteen, thirty, forty, deuce, advantage, game, set — held by a pure scoring engine rather than by the scorer's memory. Deuce number, golden point and tiebreak state are all displayed as they arrive.

Two serves and the change of ends

First serve, fault, second serve, double fault to the receivers — handled as a sequence. Ends change on the odd games and every six points of a tiebreak, prompted at the right moment.

End a set that cannot be finished

Rain, a court-time limit, a mid-set retirement. END SET closes the set in play and asks who takes it — explicitly, because a truncated set is exactly where the scoreboard leader may not be the side the organizer awards it to. A tiebreak abandoned at six games all still reports as 6-6.

Hand the court to another phone

Open the match under IN PROGRESS on a second device and the sets, games, the point in play and the serve rebuild themselves, then carry on.

RULES

The rules a padel tournament actually chooses

FIP rules moved in 2026 and clubs did not all move with them. These are settings on the competition so both can run in the same app.

Golden point, star point or advantage

Golden point makes 40-40 a single deciding point, the FIP and Premier Padel standard and the default here. Star point, from the 2026 FIP rules, runs deuce, advantage, deuce, advantage and makes the third deuce the decider. Advantage is the classic unlimited version.

Best of three or best of five

Sets to win the match is a setting, as is the number of games to take a set and the two-game lead needed to close it out.

Tiebreak, where you want it

A tiebreak to seven at six games all by default — both the trigger and the target are configurable, and the tiebreak can be switched off entirely for a format that plays the set out.

Deciding-set super tiebreak

Turn it on and the final set becomes a single super tiebreak to ten instead of a full set — the standard way to keep an americano or a one-day club draw inside its court booking.

Doubles, and singles where you play it

Padel defaults to doubles. The lineup is nominated before the match by the team, or set courtside by the scorer, and it drives which players the point pickers show.

SPECTATORS

What everyone watching sees

Padel is played inside a glass box that seats about nine people. Everyone else gets the link.

The live point

Sets and games across the top, the current point below it, and the state of the game called out — GOLDEN POINT, STAR POINT, DEUCE with its number, TIE-BREAK or SUPER TIE-BREAK.

The ladder, replayed

The point-by-point feed shows the score after every point — 15-0, 30-15, 40-30 — reconstructed through the same scoring engine the scorer used, so what the public page shows is what happened on court rather than an approximation of it.

A tab for every set

Each set with its game score and, where one was played, the tiebreak underneath it. Tap any set to read that set's points.

Match stats by shot

Points won, games won and sets won side by side, then a line for every point type — how many bandejas, how many víboras, how many unforced errors, per team.

The format, stated

A format card spells out the rules this match is being played under: best of how many, games per set, where the tiebreak comes and what it runs to, which deuce mode, and whether the decider is a super tiebreak.

ORGANIZERS

For whoever is running the tournament

Court bookings are finite. The admin should not also eat the evening.

Standings on set difference

Points on your own per-win configuration with ties broken on sets won minus sets lost, accumulated from every completed match automatically.

Groups then knockouts

One table per group with the qualifying places marked, group results kept separate from the bracket they feed.

A scorer per court

Assign each fixture to whoever is scoring that court; clear it to hand it on when the block of court time ends.

Entries and pairs

Teams register themselves and you approve or reject, and the pairs are nominated by the people playing rather than transcribed by you.

One page for the event

Fixtures, live scores, results and tables on a shareable link — the club's whole weekend on one URL.

PADEL QUESTIONS

PADEL ANSWERED.

Asked most often about padel on SportsBuddy. The screen-by-screen version of every flow lives in the step-by-step guides.

Does SportsBuddy support the golden point in padel?

Yes, and it is the default — 40-40 is a single deciding point, matching the FIP and Premier Padel standard. Two alternatives are available per tournament: star point, from the 2026 FIP rules, where the deciding point comes at the third deuce; and classic advantage scoring with unlimited deuces.

Can a padel tournament use a super tiebreak for the deciding set?

Yes. Turn on the deciding-set super tiebreak and the final set is played as a single tiebreak to ten instead of a full set, with the target configurable. It is the usual way to keep a one-day draw inside its court booking, and the public scoreboard reports that set by its tiebreak score.

Does the app record padel shots like the bandeja and víbora?

Yes. Every point is filed with padel's own vocabulary: winner, smash, bandeja, víbora, chiquita, globo, volley winner, a winner off the glass, por tres and por cuatro for a smash out over the side or back fence, ace, double fault, opponent error and unforced error. The public match stats break the match down by those shots.

What happens if a padel set has to be abandoned?

END SET closes the set in play and asks the scorer to name the side that takes it — explicitly, because a set cut short for rain, court time or a retirement is exactly where the scoreboard leader may not be the team the organizer awards it to. A tiebreak abandoned at six games all still reports as 6-6.

Can spectators follow a padel match point by point on the web?

Yes. The public page shows the live sets, games and current point with golden point, deuce and tiebreak states called out, a tab for every set with its tiebreak score, the full point-by-point ladder, match stats broken down by shot type, and a card stating the exact format being played. No account and no install.

How does the app handle serving and changing ends in padel?

Two serves are handled as a sequence — first serve, fault, second serve, double fault to the receivers — and the app prompts the change of ends on the odd games and every six points of a tiebreak, including a super tiebreak.
